"Preparing students to work in inclusive environments: are LIS programs doing enough?"
LIS programs have made strides in introducing students to diversity, equity, and inclusion concerns, especially in terms of serving a diverse community of users and customers. But attrition of library workers of color and work environments that are not inclusive or safe for workers with intellectual, gender, mobility, modality, and neuro diversities suggest that we need to focus more on the environments where our students seek employment. We are preparing our increasingly diverse student bodies to enter perpetually heteronormative, ablest, and white supremacist work environments. Together, let’s discuss and create some approaches for bridging this gap.
